Frequently Asked Questions
What is Nutrition Therapy?
Medical Nutrition Therapy (or counseling) is a nutrition based protocol that helps manage symptoms and chronic illness by addressing the root cause. MNT assesses nutrition status by conventional and functional lab tests, dietary intake, and health history and tackles these issues nutritionally – through food and supplement protocols.
What is a CNS?
A CNS (Certified Nutrition Specialist) is a nutrition professional with an advanced degree from a fully accredited university in nutrition. It is a nationally recognized professional credential specializing in functional nutrition practice. It is the only non-dietetics credential widely name in state nutrition laws.
Credentialing requirements:
- Master’s or Doctorate Degree
- 1,000 Supervised Clinical Hours
- 200 Question BCNS Certifying Exam
- Credential Maintenance: Every 5 Years + 75 CEU’s
What does it mean that you are a CNS candidate?
This means that I do not have my CNS quite yet! I am currently working towards the credentialing requirements. In 2022, I have began accruing my 1,000 supervised clinical hours. My supervision is with The Clinicians Incubator. This means that I have a team of CNS credentialed nutritionists guiding me along the way. I passed the CNS exam in December 2022 and am continuing to accrue supervision hours.
Will you work with my physician?
Absolutely! I am more than happy to coordinate care with your physician, specialist, therapist, or other health care practitioner with your permission.
Do you take insurance?
At the moment, I do not take insurance. However, I can provide you with a superbill that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.
I don’t live in California, can I still work with you?
Possibly! Nutrition Therapy guidelines vary by state. Unfortunately, I cannot accept clients in the following states: AL, DE, FL, GA, IA, KS, MD, MO, MS, MT, NE, OH, SD, TN, and WY. If you are in another state and are interested in nutrition therapy, but unsure if we can work together – reach out! I am more than happy to discuss options with you.
How do you conduct your sessions?
All of my sessions are done virtually (telehealth) via a HIPPA compliant video-chat through Practice Better.
Will you help me lose weight?
At Nourish and Well, I take a non-diet approach to nutrition, which means that weight loss is not a primary outcome for my services. My philosophy revolves around intuitive eating, nourishing foods, and supporting positive relationships with food.
